Your Own Outdoor Recreation Business? Explore the Possibilities

Entrepreneurs and hobbyists interested in exploring the potential for starting or growing a business in the outdoor recreation industry have two new resources.

Outdoor recreation businesses registered or planned to open in the southern New Mexico counties of Catron, Socorro, Lincoln, Roosevelt, Chaves, Lea, Eddy, Otero, Dona Ana, Sierra, Grant, Luna or Hidalgo can apply to participate in a free, 6-week business accelerator program hosted by Arrowhead Center at NMSU in collaboration with the City of Las Cruces. Selected participants will receive access to and support from academic faculty, industry leaders, investors, and others who can provide virtual connections with prospective partners and customers. Program graduates have the opportunity to join Arrowhead Ventures for continued business and technical advising, academic and industry connections, and up to $20,000 in Amazon Web Service Credits.

Are you a woman who is curious about business opportunities in the outdoor recreation industry? Join WESST and New Mexico MEP on Saturday, June 26 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm for a virtual introduction to resources and more. According to the two nonprofit business development organizations hosting the event, if you are a woman that loves the outdoors and wants to be her own boss, the sky is the limit with outdoor recreation business ideas — including energy bars, outdoor yoga, guiding, photography, and food vending. The virtual workshop will help entrepreneurs measure the cost of doing business, understand marketing, and learn about local resources that can help drive their business to success.
