The New Mexico Early Childhood Education and Care Department is offering loans starting at $100,000 for child care facilities, and applications can be submitted now until October 31, 2026. The program provides low-interest, long-term loans to caregiving providers to build and make improvements to child care facilities.
The Child Care Facility Revolving Loan Fund offers low-interest, long-term loans for major capital projects such as expansion, renovations, and repairs, new construction, or operating capital. Child care providers who operate or plan to operate licensed home-based or center-based programs, including individuals, private businesses, nonprofits, and entities owned or managed by tribal governments, are eligible to apply, as are employers that want to provide child care for employees.
The fund is offered by the New Mexico Finance Authority in collaboration with the New Mexico Early Childhood Education and Care Department. The New Mexico Finance Authority is a government agency created by the state legislature to provide low-cost financing for public infrastructure, capital equipment, and economic development projects across New Mexico. The Child Care Facility Loan Fund is its most recent financing program.
The loan program augments services provided by WESST’s CRECER program, helping expand New Mexico’s supply of early childhood care facilities. WESST is a nonprofit organization that offers consulting, training, incubation, and lending to small businesses. Its CRECER program leverages its business development services to help increase the number and quality of childcare services in the state.
The state’s Child Care Facility loans are meant for major capital projects. Available loans start at $100,000. Partial loan abatement options are also available to borrowers who meet special criteria. Loans may also be used for operating capital to support short-term funding obligations related to a project.
