Technical Assistance Available to Small Communities and Urban Neighborhoods

The New Mexico MainStreet program, a division of the New Mexico Economic Development Department, is accepting applications for technical and organizational assistance for new community development projects. Rural and Native American Communities with less than 15,000 in population are encouraged to apply for assistance under the Frontier & Native American Communities Program. Urban neighborhood commercial corridors in cities with a population of more than 50,000 are encouraged to apply through the Urban Neighborhood Commercial Corridor Program.

Both programs provide resources and professional technical assistance to community groups that may not have the capacity or resources to start or operate a full-fledged MainStreet Program.

Proposed projects must demonstrate job creation and business development, and private sector investment or enhancement of the community’s economic environment. While direct funding is not provided, the resources and technical assistance offered may assist communities with developing a strategy for potential funding.

Applications will be accepted until June 16, 2021. Interested community groups are encouraged to attend the pre-application meeting scheduled for 11:00 am on April 16. The registration link is located within the application found here.
