Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), managed by Triad National Security, supports northern New Mexico communities through various programs.
Community Programs Office
The pledge of the Community Programs Office is to partner with its neighbors on diversifying the economy, strengthening math and science learning, and expanding community giving in northern New Mexico. That pledge is realized through strategic partnerships with economic development and business service organizations, educational institutions and workforce development groups. Partners include the Regional Development Corporation, Greater Española Valley Community Development Corporation, Las Vegas First Independent Business Alliance, NM IDEA, Taos Entrepreneurial Network, chambers of commerce and many others.
Richard P. Feynman Center for Innovation
The center is an innovation catalyst, defining “innovation” as the path from scientific creativity to deployment of a solution. FCI is a steward of the Laboratory’s Intellectual Property (inventions and software), licenses LANL technologies and facilitates strategic partnerships for the purpose of solving problems in the private and other sectors.
Through its programs, FCI helps small businesses and entrepreneurs successfully deploy LANL technology and expertise to improve their product or business, helping to strengthen the high-tech ecosystem in New Mexico.
Los Alamos is committed to investing and partnering in the following economic development initiatives and programs that have a positive impact to stimulate business growth that creates jobs and strengthens communities in northern New Mexico:
Los Alamos Connect, administered by the Regional Development Corporation, is a collection of business development programs that include investment, market research, technical assistance and business coaching activities to help businesses reach the next level of success and create an entrepreneurial culture in northern New Mexico.
LANL Major Subcontractors Consortium Economic Development Grant Pool program allows LANL Major Subcontractors Consortium members to leverage their resources for the diversification of northern New Mexico’s economy, for greater impact in education, and in economic development. Grants have been awarded to nonprofits in the areas of Youth Entrepreneurship and Industry Cluster Development.
New Mexico Small Business Assistance Program (NMSBA) offers technical assistance to New Mexico small businesses. Businesses with a technical challenge that requires national laboratory expertise can seek assistance from scientists or engineers at Los Alamos and Sandia national laboratories.
WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT & EDUCATION
With a serious eye toward building tomorrow’s workforce, LANL invests more than $1 million each year to enhance educational opportunities in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education regionally and nationally.
LANL is committed to giving back to our northern New Mexico neighbors through a variety of community programs, providing opportunities for employees to make gifts of time, talent and money.
